Memorial Brick Wall

Mather's memorial brick wall mural was created for Mather's centennial in 1997. There are over 550 family names on it of past and present residents. Local artists enjoyed time spent on this project - come and see - it is amazing how a name can evoke so many memories.

The Rock

The large rock for Mather commemorative marker was moved from a field 1 mile east of Mather and is now situated next to the memorial brick wall in Mather. Tractors, loaders and bulldozers were used to haul and move the rock. It was moved by road on a metal skid with a 4 wheel drive tractor. The rock was balanced on the skid with railway ties. Due to the friction of the road and skid it developed enough heat to start the railway ties on fire.

Historical site and viewing area

Cartwright has recently developed a viewing area approximately 4 miles north of town for visitors to see a magnificent site of clay banks and a bison jump which was utilized by Sonata and Besant cultures. Certain areas have been authenticated as having settlements dating back approximately 2,500 years.
